Çiler İlhan: Einstein Between the Lines

The author of prose and essays. She was born in 1972 and is a graduate of International Relations and Political Science at Bosphorus University. She first gained recognition at the age of 21 when she received a prestigious youth award, named after the writer Yaşar Nabi, for her short story. After writing for various magazines for some time, her first collection of short stories, Rüya Tacirleri Odası [The Dream Merchants’ Chamber], was published in 2006. For her book Sürgün [Exile], which followed four years later, she was awarded the European Union Prize for Literature. Having worked as a hotelier, freelance writer and editor at different points in her life, she was also the public relations manager of the Çırağan Palace Kempinski hotel in Istanbul for some time. She is currently the editor-in-chief of Condé Nast Traveller Turkey. As the motto of her literary career, she chose the paraphrase of Einstein’s quote: “Everything should be made as easy as possible, but not simpler.”
